Colonial Secretary's Office,

Singapore, 22nd. May, 1919.

Sir,

With reference to your letter 92/18 of the 24th

April, 1918, I am directed to inform you that the question

of the payment of £38 to Mr. Swinnerton has been referred

to the Deputy Assistent Adjutant and Quartermaster General

end to forward a copy of the latter's reply.

2. I am further to forward you a copy of a letter from the Deputy Assistant Adjutant and Quartermaster General

of the 31st. May, 1918, from which it will be obvious that

the payment of Mr. Swinnerton's passage is not a matter for

this Government but that any claim in that connection should

be made to the War Office.

3. I am therefore to return your voucher No. 142 and

to confirm my previous request that you will credit this Government with 8228.71 in the next quarterly account.

I have, &c.,

F. 9. James

Colonial Secretary, Straits Settlements.

(sd.)

The Honourable

The Colonial Secretary,
